Egyptian Standard for Care Labelling in Textile Products
The Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality Control (EOS) announced in March 2015 that the Ministerial Decree No. 423/2005 mandates all producers and importers of textile products to comply with ES 1405/2014 “Care Labelling Code Using Symbols”. This Egyptian Standard supersedes its previous 2008 edition and is proposed to be effective six months from the date of adoption.
According to this rule, textile products should have a care label that provides written information about the regular care and cleaning processes to be used in order to maintain or restore the desirable and functional attributes of the textiles. The standard provides for the use of care symbols to cover all household processes, including washing, bleaching, drying after washing, ironing and specialized care for textile processors when wet and dry cleaning. The standard also covers information imparted by washing symbols that assist in washing laundry and special cleaning. Industrial washing symbols are not included in the standard.
In order to harmonize with the international care labelling system, this Egyptian standard follows the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 3758:2012 “Textile – Care Labelling Code Using Symbols”.
