Argentina Adopts New Requirements for Sunglasses
Argentina has adopted through Disposition 562/2019 new requirements for domestically-produced and imported sunglasses. Excluded from this regulation are equipment to protect the eye from artificial light radiation, ski goggles and other sport goggles, and medically-prescribed sunglasses and sun filters.
Importers and domestic producers of subject merchandise must register with Argentina’s National Administration of Drugs, Foods and Medical Devices (ANMAT) and employ the services of a qualified technical expert. They must also pay a fee and provide certain information when registering with ANMAT, such as marking/labelling details; company address, phone number and email address; filter category; compliance with ultraviolet protection; brand; name of legal representative; name, address and credentials of technical director; and test results issued by a properly accredited laboratory showing the accuracy of the UV filter declaration (in the case of imported sunglasses, the test results may be issued by a lab accredited by a recognised accreditation body in accordance with ISO 17025).
