MYANMAR: New Investment Plan Designed to Boost FDI and Enhance Business Environment

The newly-unveiled Myanmar Investment Promotion Plan 2018 (MIPP) is intended to nurture a three-phase increase in FDI over the next 18 years. In particular, it has been designed to attract investment into four specific sectors – export-oriented, domestic-oriented, natural resource-based, and knowledge-based. It is hoped that the new policy will also improve the country’s standing in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index, where it currently languishes at 171 (out of 190).
