INDONESIA: Fast-track Visa Processing Curtailed Under Illicit Payment Crackdown
Overseas workers and visa agents will no longer have the option of fast-tracking visa applications in Indonesia. The ruling, which comes into immediate effect, ends the previous practice of applications being processed more quickly in return for unsanctioned payments to immigration officials.
The move comes as part of a larger bid to end the imposition of illegal levies by public officials. In a related move, the Indonesian government recently established an Anti-illegal Levy Task Force. This will target any official soliciting illicit payments in return for public services. For further details, see INDONESIA: Port Arrest Underlines Government’s Commitment to Eradicating Bribery.
