CAMBODIA: New Factories and Industrial Vehicles Banned in Central Phnom Penh
No new factories are to be opened in the central districts of Phnom Penh, the national capital, following the imposition of a blanket ban designed to cut back on commercial traffic in the frequently-congested city. While, for the present at least, all existing factories and factories within the prescribed zone will be permitted to remain, many of them are expected to face severe disruption when a planned ban on heavy industrial vehicles also comes into force later this year.
It is hoped that these new regulations will encourage businesses to relocate to the outskirts of the city. In particular, it is hoped that such facilities, as well as any new-built manufacturing premises, will be set up along the route of the city’s third ring road, which is expected to open to traffic in 2021.
