CAMBODIA: New Customs Seal Introduced for Imported Smartphones, Watches and Liquor to Combat Counterfeiting and Smuggling

All smartphones, watches and liquor products imported into Cambodia with a value of US$50 or more will now have to bear a seal issued by the customs department. The new seal will be in the form of a sticker containing invisible text, invisible logo, micro text and a secret mark seen only through laser.

The measure, which came into effect from 1 January, has been introduced as part of the Cambodian government’s efforts to eliminate counterfeits and combat smuggling. The customs department has warned that businesses found selling those products without the new customs sticker or with fake seals will be fined and made to pay any taxes that have been evaded.
