CAMBODIA: Monthly Minimum Wage in the Garment Sector to Increase to US$153 from 1 January 2017

The monthly minimum wage in Cambodia’s garment sector will increase from US$140 to US$153 as of 1 January 2017. The announcement was made by the government on 29 September following a vote in the Labour Advisory Committee (LAC). The wage increase will apply to the country’s 600,000 garment and footwear workers and is in line with recent government assurances of incremental annual pay rises.

The increase comes despite concerns from employers that higher wages could see the sector lose its competitive edge compared to other garment exporting countries in the region.
