CAMBODIA: Importers of Travel Goods to the US Set for Levy Refund

Any companies that have exported Cambodian travel goods to the US may be entitled to a refund on all duties levied between 31 December 2017 and 22 April 2018. This follows the news that Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) status for all such goods was reinstated as of 22 April, with its effect deemed to retroactively apply from 1 January this year. The GSP standing of the sector, which extends across suitcases, handbags, backpacks and wallets, will now be maintained until 31 December 2020.

Companies seeking a refund should apply via the US Customs and Border Protection website by 19 September 2018. Those business taking advantage of the Special Program Indicator (SPI) system, which identifies products designated tariff-free under the US GSP programme, will be automatically reimbursed.
