CAMBODIA: Online Tax Payment System Set to Boost Revenue and Curb Corruption

Companies and individuals are now able to clear all of their tax liabilities courtesy of a new electronic payment system. Operating under the auspices of the General Department of Taxation (GDT), the system can currently be accessed via the online payment gateways of three of the country’s banking groups - Vattanac, Acleda and Canadia. The service will later be extended to the remainder of the country’s financial institutions.

It is hoped the online system will not only boost tax collection levels, but also reduce instances of corruption, as applicants are no longer obliged to deal directly with tax officials. The GDT also has plans in place to introduce an online tax returns filing system at some point in 2018.
